Where Are You From?

This Fall/Winter 2011 we are focusing on the idea of time with clever, sustainable  pragmatism and creativity to bring our global society to a brighter tomorrow. We look to the reassuring value of tradition in Radical Classic with a bold, new energy to provide us with a fresh, yet classic, foundation. We reinterpret these traditional times by migrating back to our early origins, as seen in Where Are You From?, and contrasting them with the timelessness of adventure, fantasy, and imagination yearned for in Uchronia. When revisiting our past heritages, we also learn to reach out to one another as a global community, uniting together to create optimistic, innovative solutions to bring us forward Happy Together

Each month will we look into the 4 fundamental, transversal themes for the Fall/ Winter 2011-12 season:  Radical Classic, Happy Together, Where Are You From?, and Uchronia. This month we are going back to our roots with our theme, Where are you From?.

Immerse yourself in the simpler times of the past with the warm layers of comfort found amongst our Old World customs. This season we will rediscover these traditions by traveling back to these ancient lands and re-instituting their ways of stability and comfort through soft textures and rich hues.

CULTURE SNACK

Our Culture Snack section is where we share interesting findings, ideas, events, initiatives etc.

Asian Art Museum

In lieu of our Where Are You From? theme, we look to the Asian Art Museum SF to learn about Japan's Early Ambassadors to San Francisco 1860-1927.

Timed to coincide with the 150th anniversary of the arrival of the ship Kanrin Maru and the first Japanese embassy to the United States, this exhibit focuses on some of the first Japanese diplomats and cultural emissaries in San Francisco, and how they responded to the experience of being in America. The exhibit addresses the personal and artistic challenges faced by these artists in their attempts to assimilate into this new cultural environment.

On view at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco from May 4-November 21, 2010
